"Regarding change in assessment and management: my eyes are no longer glued to the outcome of an activity. I now assess a person's body in sequence from the lower to upper trunk, scapula, upper arm, forearm, hand, legs, and foot. It is very evident to me now when one is compensating via use of internal rotators. I now feel like I know how to manage an effected upper extremity after a stroke including the hand, especially the thumb. "Assessment: this course has truly opened my eyes to just how connected everything in the body is and how movement in one place can impact movement in another, for better or worse. The role of me as a therapist is to intentionally use my hands and my body to help facilitate normal movement and prevent abnormal motor movement. In addition, this course showed me just how important activity analysis is to know what components are needed to assess my patients to see what they need. This course has shown me how to look at the whole body in the context of all of life’s activities.


In terms of management, the course has shown me how not to split the patient up by body part, but rather to work on  as a team for the whole body to prepare them for life. My perspective on the role of rehab to return a patient to their fullest potential has been strengthened, in addition to me recognizing my role in representing the patient in terms of all aspects so that small traumas do not become big traumas.
